How to maintain your luscious lashes for longer

Thick, fluttery eyelashes are an eye-catching feature of your face, and when you have had eyelash extensions applied, you want to be sure that they last for as long as possible, and always look in tip-top condition.

At AAURA, a leading beauty and hair salon in Puerto Banus, Marbella,  we want our clients to have the best possible experience, which is why we want to offer you some advice about how to care for your eyelash extensions.

You shed your own eyelashes every eight weeks as part of a natural growth cycle, and new ones grow in their place. What you may not be aware of is that eyelash extensions also fall out at the same time as your natural lashes. It is likely that you will notice these more, simply because they are longer and therefore easier to see.

We apply individual lashes using an adhesive, which allows us to create a tailor-made look, as each client can choose the length, thickness and colour of the lash. Given the growth and shedding cycle of natural eyelashes, we have found that there is sometime confusion about lash aftercare, so we have prepared these quick and easy tips to keep your lashes looking luscious.

Choosing eye make-up

We recommend that you stick to using a water-based, and non-waterproof mascara. Also, where possible, avoid any oil-based eye make-up remover while you have lash extensions. The reason for this is that an oil-based product can weaken the adhesive bond. Also, we’d suggest that you avoid using eyelash curlers, as they tend to dislodge the lashes.

Avoid water

Avoid immersing your face in water for the first two hours after your lashes have been applied. Similarly, avoid getting the lashes wet for the first 24 hours after the application. And, where possible, avoid immersing your lashes in water for prolonged periods of time, such as when swimming underwater.

Be gentle

When drying your face after washing it, be gentle with the towel. Dab it gently over the face and take care not to rub it over the eye area.

Come back for some infills

We recommend that you return to us for some infills about one month after the original application. This helps to prolong the life of your lash extensions. You may notice some lashes dropping out after the four-week mark, and it is less expensive to have infills applied, rather than reapplying a full set. It also keeps you lashes looking fuller for longer.

As you can see, it is not too difficult to care for your lash extensions, and ensure that you can flutter them with confidence for the longest time possible.
